After receiving my BFA in Painting and Printmaking from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, my husband and I moved to a small valley in the northern New Mexico desert, where we have built our home and studios, powered by wind and solar and living close with our natural surroundings.
These paintings are created with acrylic Venetian plaster on cradled panels. Many layers of pigmented plaster are laid down with various tools: stencils, spatulas, brushes and sponges. Next they are sanded back to reveal detail, narrative and mood. This process of laying down and sanding away can be repeated however long it takes to discover the image. Finally, the painting is burnished with extremely fine steel wool, bringing out the inherent luster of the plaster, and deepening the hue and shadow of the colors and imparting a subtle shine, much like stones polished by a moving stream of water.
Thank you for your interest in my art.
